It was an honor to present at LABEST this month with other UC-system startup founders. One of the goals of this panel was to give academic founders an honest look at what it's really like to build a medtech company. I appreciated the opportunity to share my experiences alongside the other panelists, and I hope the panel helped make that reality a little clearer.
One thing that struck me was that every one of us, in one way or another, had to pivot our business along the journey. Looking back, it's easy to tell a story that makes the path seem much cleaner and more linear than it actually was. In reality startups are rarely linear, and rarely smooth journeys.
